October is International Walk to School Month
Yet another successful International Walk to School Month has come and gone. An awareness of the health, safety and environmental benefits of walking to school (or at school) was raised by 115 participating schools across Nova Scotia, including approximately 25,000 students.
2009 Prize Winners:
Many schools across Nova Scotia registered by June 30 and qualified for the Early Registration Prize Draw from Green Teacher. Here are the winners:
- Brookland Elementary School wins Teaching Green: The Elementary Years
- George D. Lewis School wins Teaching Green: The Middle Years
- Lockeport Regional High School wins Teaching Green: The High School Years
Of the 115 schools that participated in the event, those that completed the online Award & Feedback Form after their events qualified for more prize draws. Here are the winners:
- West End Memorial Elementary wins a StepsCount school pedometer kit
- Saint Mary’s Elementary wins a Green Teacher magazine one-year subscription
- Bible Hill East Court Road School wins an Ecology Action Centre one-year membership

2010 International Walk to School Month
Starting in May 2010, online registration will be available for Walk to School Month in October 2010 (October 4 to 8, 2010 is Walk to School Week)
