The Program: Five Easy Steps

The Canadian School Travel Planning project - coordinated in Nova Scotia by Active & Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) of the Ecology Action Centre - is an initiative of Green Communities Canada, and is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada, George Weston Limited/Loblaw Companies Limited, and the Green Communities Foundation. (Production of these materials has been made possible through a financial contribution from the Public Health Agency of Canada. The views expressed herein do not necessarily represent the views of the Public Health Agency of Canada.)

Through the Canadian School Travel Planning project, ASRTS offers in-depth consultations to guide school and community groups through a five-step process to help more children and youth walk and wheel our streets in safety.

  1. Program Setup & Identify a Program Team
  2. Gather Data & Identify Problems
  3. Create an Action Plan
  4. Implement and Celebrate
  5. Evaluation and Ongoing Monitoring

We offer a real live person to guide your school through this process. Schools that sign on to the School Travel Planning process and work through these steps are eligible for financial incentives. Contact us for details.
